Gary A. Gilot is the retired Director of Public Works for the City of South Bend. He continues volunteer service to the City serving as President of the Board of Public Works. Gary earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Clarkson University in Upstate New York (1978), and an MBA from Indiana University at South Bend (1985). He is a licensed Professional Engineer in Indiana (since 1982). As Public Works Director for the City of South he was responsible for water, sewer, street and other public infrastructure. Gary has been engaged in applied research and commercialization of research through his years in public service. He has an aggregate of 28 years of municipal environmental stewardship experience. Gary gained prior knowledge and experience as an Environmental Engineering consultant for 6 years. Gary is a recipient of the Ivan H. Brinegar municipal management award through the Indiana Association of Cities and Towns. Gary was selected as the nation’s 2010 “Public Works Leader of the Year.” for innovation in local government by American City & County magazine.
